Whooping cough confirmed in Bancroft school

Hastings and Prince Edward Public Health has confirmed a case of the whooping cough in a school in the Bancroft area.

The health unit would not confirm in which school the outbreak took place.

You are being asked to call your health care provider if your child develops symptoms, which can begin with a runny nose and cough, and may become severe in the first two weeks. The cough may end in gagging, vomiting, trouble breathing, and your child may make a loud ‘whoop’ when breathing in.

The whooping cough can easily be spread by the coughing or sneezing of an infected person.
