Hastings Highlands considers shipping container regulations

Hastings Highlands council is considering creating regulations about shipping containers in the municipality.

Council discussed that some residents use shipping containers as in-expensive methods of storage that are safer than sheds.

Deputy Mayor Gregg Roberts says there have been complaints to the municipality that these containers are eyesores and are not being maintained.

The new rules could also include making sure all labels have been removed, requiring containers to be painted a neutral colour, and ensuring they are not publically visible.

The regulations could also include restricting residential areas from having the containers, but permitting them on agricultural or industrial properties.
