Hastings Highlands wants an end to rural delivery rates

Hastings Highlands Council is asking that the province get rid of rural delivery rates on hydro bills.

Council is supporting a motion from Tay Valley Township, asking the province to make electricity more affordable.

Rural areas pay more for delivery rates than urban ones because of lower population densities.

The motion points out that about 60,000 Hydro One customers have had their service disconnected because they can’t pay their bills.
