Local tourism organization wants you to Come Wander

The Ontario Highlands Tourism Organization will be doing more this year to draw visitors to the area.

One of the efforts the organization will be using to draw in tourists is its Come Wander campaign, which launches this spring.

The goal is for those from the city to discover the identity of the Ontario Highlands by wandering through it. The campaign will also feature a new tourism website.

The organization says, in 2016, Ontario’s Highlands were recognized on both the provincial and national level for attracting tourists. The region has been nominated for awards, and has been the centre of a lot of media attention.

In 2017, you can expect to see more media outlets make their way to communities in the region.

You can also expect more tourism events across the region. The goal is to improve the tourist experience, but also to give locals a new way to wander their communities.

The organization points to statistics from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport, which shows the reason tourism is so important to the area. In 2014, 4.8-million people came to the region, and spent a total of over $5-million.
