Most Hastings Highlands residents oppose electoral changes

Most Hastings Highlands residents don’t want the municipality’s elections to be changed.

That’s according to a survey put out to residents in response to a request that the municipality change the ward system because of unbalanced representation.

Of the 155 residents who responded to the survey, 99 were not in favour of change.

Deputy Mayor Greg Roberts says the problem is only a small number of the over 7,000 Hastings Highlands residents took part.

Roberts says the cost to make the changes it also grounds for concern.

Council has voted to hold on any decisions on the issue until its March 9th meeting, before the deadline to pass a by-law on the 16th.
