Province votes to stop winter electricity disconnections

Despite shooting down our local MPP’s bill to stop winter electricity disconnections, a similar bill has now passed.

Yesterday, the province voted in favour of supporting a bill to stop winter hydro disconnections.

But this bill was similar to one put forward by Prince Edward-Hastings MPP Todd Smith the day before, which was voted down three times over.

Smith says, despite his bill being shot down, he’s happy with the move because Ontarians won’t have their power shut off.

The decision is expected to start being enforced this Friday, and remain in effect until March 21st.
