MNRF urging you to be aware and stay away from wildlife

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is recommending that, if you come across wildlife, stay away.

This comes after a video has surfaced online of Algonquin Park visitors standing 10 to 15 feet away from a black bear that was likely looking for food. MNRF Senior Media Relations Officers Jolanta Kowalski reminds you that wildlife can be unpredictable.

Kowalski says it’s important to always be aware of your surroundings when out enjoying nature, and if you come across a black bear, yell and get back.

Kowalski says it’s rare a black bear will continue to advance if you’re backing up, but if it does, be prepared to fight back with things like bear spray.
