Local MPP’s new bill being debated in provincial legislature

Local MPP Todd Smith debates his new Smoke Free Schools bill today with the provincial government.

Smith says many high schoolers are being targeted by the illegal cigarette trade.

He says the bill would allow police to make seizures on vehicles selling contraband cigarettes.

Smith says he hopes the bill will help discourage young people from smoking.

Smith says the province is also losing over a billion dollars in revenue from people allowed to smoke who are buying contraband cigarettes.

His motion is being debated in the provincial government today, before a vote to see if Bill 139 moves forward.
