Canadian boxing legend George Chuvalo came to the North Hastings High School last Friday to talk about a very different fight. Drawing a on a long personal history of grief and heartache, the champ told the story of his life outside boxing, dealing with the drug addiction problems of three of his four sons and their deaths, along with the tragic suicide of his first wife. George spared no detail as he tried to reach the students of NHHS with a simple message against recreational drug use. He says that self-respect begins at home and that building a loving relationship at home, particularly with parents, will give a student the solid groundwork to build a self-respecting lifestyle. George took plenty of time after the presentation to speak with the students and faculty, signing autographs and offering words of advice.
