Fireworks and Canada Day May be Gone for 2014

Due to the prolonged time that the budget presentation took at the last Bancroft Town Council meeting, a number of reports were tabled for a future meeting. Among those reports tabled was one from the Events Planning Committee. In that report there was a resolution for Council to reduce its involvement in Canada Day to planting some plants in the shape of a Canadian Flag at the OPP Detachment. All other activities such as the Millennium Park celebrations and the evening Fireworks were to be cancelled. It is the Moose’s understanding that the cost of Fireworks, estimated to be between 10 and 12 thousand dollars was a primary reason for the cancellation. The Town of Bancroft had tried, informally to get assistance from surrounding municipalities to help cover some of the cost of the fireworks, but was unsuccessful. Most of the surrounding municipalities do not put on a fireworks display and many people travelled to Bancroft for the annual show. The Town will deal with the suggested cancellation at a later date.
