Bancroft Town Council met on Tuesday evening to finalize and accept its 2014 budget. Councillor Paul Jenkins opened the discussion with an explanation of how the core budget was conceived and reviewed the “Additional Outstanding Budget Items Report” from the Town Treasurer and Deputy-Treasurer. The treasurers’ report dealt with some outstanding items that needed to be addressed and included three possible approaches to resolve the extra expenses. Council accepted the first recommendation and with that they adopted the 2014 budget. The anticipated increase in municipal taxes will be 2.59%, but we are told that after the county and education rates are factored in, the net tax increase should be 1.49%. Mayor Bernice Jenkins then took time to thank the town staff and council for all their efforts to complete this year’s budget.
