9-1-1 is for Emergencies Only

Bancroft OPP is concerned about the number of 9-1-1 calls received that are not an emergency. Most of the 9-1-1 calls that Bancroft OPP receive are the result of children playing with the phone, misdials by adults, cell phone pocket dials or due to phone line problems. Some of the calls were for non-urgent police assistance. The OPP is reminding you not to call 9-1-1 unless there is an emergency to report. Children need to be reminded of when to use  9-1-1. An emergency is any situation in which the safety of people or property is at risk and requires immediate assistance. Examples of 9-1-1 emergencies include a crime in progress, an impaired driver, a medical emergency or a fire. For non-emergency calls for service to the OPP, call 1-888-310-1122, toll free anywhere in Ontario. To get information about road conditions and closures, the public should call the Ministry of Transport (MTO) toll-free at 1-800-268-4686.
