The long awaited unveiling of a mural created by renowned local artist Arne Roosman, took place this morning at 11:00. The mural is attached to the Whitfield building and depicts scenes from Bancroft’s early history. Roosman told those in attendance that when he worked on a scaffold his shoulders hurt and when worked from the ground his knees bothered him. The mural was commissioned by Burke Chamberlin, the owner of the Whitfield building and in good humour, Roosman referred to Chamberlin as his “Pope”; a reference to Michelangelo’s work on the Sistine chapel in Rome. The photo shows artist Arne Roosman on the left and Burke Chamberlin on the right in front of the mural. You can also see the developmental sketches done by Arne, for the mural, at the new Art Space in the Whitfield building today from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.
