The OPP is reminding motorists that today marks the end of the year, and that means more young people out on the streets day and night. Drivers should be aware of young people playing close to sidewalks and roads. Parents should teach their children to make eye-contact before they step off a curb and remind them to walk and not run across the street even in a crosswalk. Teach your children not to jaywalk, but to cross at intersections and marked crosswalks. Motorists should also be mindful of the increase in bicycle traffic on area roads and parents should ensure that when children are on their bicycles they are wearing a helmet and are following the rules of the road.
