Bancroft Town Council

At Bancroft Town Council last week, several issues arose within the Waste management area. The town’s cardboard baler has broken down and the cost of repair is being investigated. Meantime loose cardboard is still being collected. A bin and bin truck is being looked into to assist in waste clean-up actions. Styrofoam was another concern. Styrofoam will not be picked up in re-cycling, but it can be though to the landfill site for recycling. The comment was made about there not being adequate signage at the landfill site and a response was made to look into the situation.

The Policing Committee wanted council and the public to know that it is still functioning. Some areas it is investigating includes s safe injection site. They are concerned about the number of syringes being discarded around the town. The second session on business protection was held and moderately attended. The committee will have a handout going to residents along with their tax billing to inform the public of a “Residential Safety” training session coming on September 20th that will be open to the public.

The Town of Bancroft has approved and adopted the “Bancroft Drinking Water System Financial plan, prepared by the Ontario Clean Water Agency. This plan is required by provincial law and shows how the town plans to secure its water system in the future and how infrastructure improvements and maintenance will be funded. The council passed the Plan with a condition stating that they are not supporting the rates recommended in the plan, but will be reviewed independently.

Bancroft Council passed a by-law to approve its Energy Conservation and demand Management Plan whereby town will investigate all opportunities for reducing energy consumption within municipal buildings and facilities and that it will be posted on -line and be made available at the town office. Some issues arose concerning who would do the investigating and how will the savings be achieved. The Financial Committee was suggested for overseeing the plan while the Building commute would accept the role of completing any needs. A plan of action to enforce the Conservation Plan is being developed and is to be presented to the next council meeting.
