MPP Smith Does Not Support the 2014 Budget

Saying that there is “no fiscal responsibility in this budget at all,” MPP Todd Smith came out as strongly as ever against the provincial budget yesterday. The governing Liberals re-released the budget they presented in May that triggered the spring election; this time assured it will be passed. Quoting Finance Ministry officials who have said this budget will cost up to 150,000 jobs, Smith added that after Ontario lost almost 34,000 jobs last month this budget is an economic gut punch our small businesses don’t need. Moody’s Investors Services also appears doubtful, recently changing its fiscal outlook for the province from “stable” to “negative,” however they have left the province’s critically important credit rating unchanged.
