Misplaced World War II Medals have travelled over 1,800 kilometres to end up back in Faraday.
World War II Tank Commander George William Gordon’s medals went missing in Memphis, Tennessee, eight years ago, after he had moved into a retirement home. His grandson, Faraday resident Geoffrey Gordon, tells Moose FM that the medals had been left out on a curb by mistake.
Gordon says it was disappointing to know that his grandfather’s medals had gone missing, until he got a phone call saying they’d been found, and were back in Canada.
Gordon says one of the medals he is most happy to have back in his possession is the Distinguished Service Order, which was the second highest honour for Canadians at the time.
The medals travelled from Memphis, to Brooklyn, New York, before finally turning up in Kingston in May.
