Local health unit urges sun tanning safety

Hastings and Prince Edward Public Health is encouraging you to skip tanning this year.
The health unit says you might be looking for that ‘summer glow,’ but there are risks to UV rays from the sun and from tanning beds.
Public Health says tanning before the age of 35 can increase your risk of skin cancer, which is the most common form of the disease in Canada. Other risks include wrinkles, skin damage, premature skin aging, eye damage, and cataracts.
You are being encouraged to limit the time you spend in the sun, cover up, and wear sunscreen and sunglasses.
