Wealth in Canada not Equally Distributed

The top 10% of Canada’s population holds the most wealth, while the bottom 50% holds less than 6% of all wealth, according to a new study by the Broadbent Institute. The report, called “Haves and Have-Nots”, used data from Statistics Canada. Executive Director Rick Smith says that with much of public debate focused on the growing problem of income inequality, wealth inequality has been overlooked. The top 10% of Canadians accounted for almost half of all wealth in 2012, while the bottom 30% of Canadians accounted for less than 1% of all wealth. The report is available online at www.broadbentinstitute.ca
