Canadians Consuming Excessive Levels of Sugar

It seems we are consuming a lot of sugar in Canada. A new survey of Canadian mothers showed that on average, they drank three to four soft drinks per week, with 39% saying they don’t expect to lower their intake. When asked about how much sugar an average soft drink contains, only two out of 10 moms correctly answered 10 teaspoons. Juice can also come in at a high count with an average glass of orange juice containing just over 8 teaspoons. The World Health Organization recommends that our daily sugar intake should not exceed be 6 teaspoons for the average adult, but in Canada the average adult consumes 26 teaspoons per day according to Statistics Canada.
