Bossio calls for more high speed internet access in rural and northern regions

The Hastings-Lennox and Addington MP says it’s now possible to provide high speed internet across rural Canada at a reasonable cost.

MP Mike Bossio has penned an open letter to the CRTC, saying the lack of high speed internet and proper mobile phone access is the single most critical piece of missing infrastructure in rural areas.

Bossio is calling on the CRTC to allow for a public broadband infrastructure entity, which would be government run. The goal would be to provide to-the-door fibre optic connections, designed to handle internet, phones, and television. It should also be able to install a high speed network nation-wide within 36 months of its creation.

Bossio says these steps and more would ensure the survival and success of rural and northern regions, and allow Canadians to compete in a highly technological world.
