Taller Wooden Buildings a Boost for the Forest Industry

The Forest Products Association of Canada (FPAC) is applauding the decision by the Government of Ontario to allow the construction of wood frame buildings up to six-stories. The change to the building code will match what is being proposed under changes to the National Building Code. Along with strong safety measures, wood framed buildings have a cost advantage over other materials with reduced construction time. Wood is also an environmentally friendly renewable resource. Wood building science and the use of sprinkler systems can now ensure wooden buildings have the same level of safety as other building materials. The new rules will come into effect on January 1st. The impact could be felt throughout Ontario’s wood harvesting industry.
