Yakabuski opposes petition to stop logging in Algonquin Park

The Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke MPP wants to see logging continue in Algonquin Park.

This comes as the Wilderness Committee is petitioning the province to stop logging in the park. The committee claims logging and the roads required for it are having a destructive effect on forest land within Algonquin Park, changing the composition of the forest and water flows, along with affecting wildlife populations.

MPP John Yakabuski has responded to the petition, saying logging actually makes Algonquin Park a better place.

Yakabuski also says logging in Algonquin Park is not only a great economic driver, but a way of life.

Yakabuski says the forest-management plan in Algonquin Park is world class in nature. He says logging is done to the highest standards in a way that is least disruptive to other activities in the park.
