Hastings County to take steps to curb homelessness by measuring it

Hastings County will be undertaking the process of determining just how many homeless people live in the area.

Director of Community and Human Services Erin Rivers says the county will be working with the Ministry of Housing to get an estimate of how many homeless people there are in the region.

This is part of the province’s goal to end chronic homelessness by 2025. Rivers says the process of measuring homelessness in Hastings County will be split into four separate areas.

Rivers says the county will put forward a plan on how to roll out the strategy by the end of October. After that, the county will start measuring local homelessness in April, and again every two years.
