Seventy-six per cent of lakeside septic systems in Highlands East are considered low risk.
That’s according to a report from the municipality, after inspecting septic systems on over 900 properties on seven lakes. Reeve Dave Burton says it’s good news that most systems are in good condition.
However, the report also sets out that 12 per cent of systems were classified as high or very high risk, which means they have damaged tanks or insufficient tiles.
While more inspections are planned for next year, Burton says it’s too soon to say if the municipality will take remedial action.
