Minimum wage top of mind for local MPP heading back to provincial legislature

The Prince Edward-Hastings MPP says a proposed minimum wage increase will be top of mind heading into the fall sessions of the provincial legislature.

These sessions begin on Monday, and MPP Todd Smith says one of his big focuses will be on addressing a proposed minimum wage increase to $14 an hour by next year, and to $15 by 2019. Smith says his goal is to have the rate at which the increase is introduced slowed down.

Smith, in his role as the Energy Critic, says this will also give him a chance to ask the Minister of Energy how much the province’s ‘Fair Hydro Plan’ is going to cost Ontarians.

With a provincial election set to be held by next June, Smith says the Progressive Conservative party will begin to start unveiling some of its platforms and policies.

The fall sessions of the provincial legislature start at 9:00am on Monday at Queen’s Park in Toronto.
