Algonquin Park expects early peak of Sugar Maple fall colours

Sugar Maple fall colours are nearing their peak in Algonquin Park, a little earlier than usual.

That’s according to Ontario Parks, saying this week and weekend will be the best time to catch the change in the colour of their leaves along the Highway 60 corridor.

Ontario Parks says this year’s warm weather is driving the early change in Sugar Maple leaf colours in Algonquin Park. Typically, the Sugar Maple canopy reaches its peak colour change around September 27th.

Ontario Parks says Poplar and Birch leaves are still green with a hint of yellow or orange. Their colour change is expected to hit its peak in mid-October. Tamarack leaves are still green, but are expected to hit their peak colour change in mid to late October.
