Bancroft area sees drop in thefts and break-ins

Despite more break-ins in Bancroft’s downtown core, the area has seen a drop in these types of crimes overall.

That’s according to Bancroft OPP Constable Philippe Regamey, who says so far this year, there have been 33 break-ins in the area, compared to 55 by this time last year.

Regamey also says there have been a total of 85 thefts reported in the area so far in 2017. Some of the cases are still unsolved, but others have either been cleared by charges or been deemed unfounded. By this time last year, there were 112 thefts reported in the area.

The area has also seen a decrease in stolen vehicles; eight stolen vehicles have been reported so far in 2017, versus 10 by this time last year.

The OPP reminds you that having your vehicle stolen or stolen from are both preventable crimes.

Police recommend you always roll up your vehicle’s windows, lock your doors, and pocket the keys. You are being advised not to leave your keys in an easily accessible place. It’s important to never leave your vehicle unattended while it’s running. If you have a garage, police are asking you to use it or park it in a well-lit area.
