Bancroft’s Mayor will officially be stepping away from her role at the council table.
During a special meeting of council yesterday, Mayor Bernice Jenkins announced in a letter that she will be officially resigning from the position as of November 30th. Jenkins has been on a leave of absence since April, on the advice of her doctor and her family.
Jenkins tells Moose FM she had expected to come back from the leave, but says that’s becoming less and less likely.
Jenkins has been elected as Bancroft’s Mayor twice, and has also served two terms as a councillor before that. She says she truly enjoyed her time serving the community.
Jenkins took time in her letter to thank Bancroft Council, staff, volunteers, residents, and her family.
From here, Bancroft Council will have to appoint a new mayor and new councillor. Staff will bring back a report on the subject at an upcoming meeting.
