Women in Politics Increasing?

Municipal politics in North Hastings has been predominantly a man’s game, but the numbers appear to be changing. Bancroft has one Mayor and six councellors (3 from bancroft Ward and 3 from Dunganon Ward). There are two candidates for Mayor, one man and one woman, five candidates for Bancroft Ward (3 men and 2 women) and there are six candidates for Dungannon Ward (4 men and 2 women). In Bancroft there are 13 candidates, six of whom are women. That is about 46 % women.

In Hastings Highlands there are 7 positions, including Mayor, and there are 16 candidates 5 of which are women, or 31.2 %.

In Carlow-Mayo there are 10 candidates for 5 positions, including Reeve, and only 1 candidate is a woman, that is just 10 %.

In Farady there are 5 positions with 2 women elected, or 40 %.

In Wollsaton there are 15 candidates 6 of which are women, or 40 %.

In Tudor Cashel there are 8 candidates 4 of which are women, or 50 %.

In Limerick Township, there are 8 candidates, 3 of which are women, or 37.5 %
