Local public board confirms provincial funding for rural schools

The Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board has confirmed it will receive funding through the Rural and Northern Education Fund.

This comes as Hastings Highlands Council has sent a letter to the board asking to be involved in how the funds are allocated.

The school board says it will receive over $600,000 from the province to improve programming and services at rural schools, operate them, and enhance student transportation. The board says $100,000 will be allocated to supporting school budgets in its rural schools, while the rest will be put towards their operations.

As part of the funding requirement, the board will publicly report on how the money will be used in mid-2018, as the school year comes to a close.
