Hastings Highlands to conduct building study thanks to federal funding

Hastings Highlands will receive up to $20,000 to conduct a buildings and facilities strategy.

The funding is coming from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ Municipal Asset Management Program. Mayor Vivian Bloom says the money will be put towards an in-depth study of municipality-owned buildings to make sure they’re safe, accessible, cost-effective, and not under-used.

Bloom says, once the study is completed, a buildings and facilities strategy will be created to give council the ability to make proper decisions.

Bloom says council will look at all the community’s needs before making any decisions. She says this type of funding is critical to the municipality to help take the strain off local taxpayers and get much-needed work done.
