Hastings Highlands considers future development in Bird’s Creek

Hastings Highlands Council has received its first look at a proposed subdivision plan in Bird’s Creek.

Earlier today, Dillon Consulting Ltd. provided council with a framework of what a subdivision at the corner of Y-Road and South Baptiste Lake Road could look like. The plan sets out 14 lots could be built on a cul-de-sac road.

Dillon Consulting Associate and Senior Planner Rory Baksh says the municipality is looking to allow for rural-industrial development on the land.

There is no timeline right now as to when the municipality could move forward with the plan. Baksh says Hastings Highlands still needs to go through the process called a ‘Plan of Subdivision’.

Mayor Vivian Bloom says Hastings Highlands bought the land from the county in order to allow for development on it, which will add to its municipal assessment. She says several business have already expressed interest in buying property on Y-Road.

Bloom calls this good planning for the future. She says a buffer zone would be part of the plan to reduce noise in surrounding residential areas.
