Lottery Scam Reported

The OPP is warning the public of a telephone “Lottery” scam in our area. A Madoc resident recently received a phone call from a man claiming to be associated with “Canadian Cash Awards.” The caller told the homeowner he had won millions of dollars and a new car. To collect the winnings, however, the winner must send hundreds of dollars to the company by wire transfer. The caller also asked for personal and financial information from the homeowner. The OPP reminds you to protect your personal and financial information. Remember, you cannot win without first buying a ticket. You should never be asked to pay any fees to receive a prize, lottery or sweepstake. You should never be asked to keep your winnings secret.
