Bancroft Legion Will Sell its Building

About 65 members attended last night’s General Meeting at the Bancroft Legion to learn more about the possible sale of the Legion building. President Larry Shatraw reviewed the Executive’s concerns about taxes, renovation costs, declining membership and increasing utility costs, and then asked for questions or comments. There were no questions or comments and so President Shatraw explained that Dominion Command needed a vote from the membership to continue to move forward with the sale. Members voted 58 in favour to 6 against. The branch now hopes to get the sale underway quickly, to avoid further debt. The plan is to seek a smaller, more economical location. There was no discussion as to whether to buy or rent. Councillor Paul Jenkins of the Town of Bancroft was present and he addressed the members saying that the town was sympathetic to the Legion’s situation and would do what it could help with the transition.
