Parents are being reminded that punishing their kids may not be the best way to correct unwanted behaviour.
That’s the message from the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit, which says yelling, spanking, threatening, and shaming kids can have a lasting negative impact on them. The health unit says these punishments will make kids think it’s okay to act that way.
Instead, the health unit recommends taking a positive approach to discipline, by respecting, listening, and rewarding good behaviour with love. There are a number of resources available to parents to help them learn how to positively discipline their children. Click here to find out more.
