Bossio calls National Housing Strategy essential for rural communities

The Hastings-Lennox and Addington MP is calling the National Housing Strategy a game changer for Canadians.

The federal government has introduced the 10-year, $40-billion strategy meant to reduce homelessness and improve the availability and quality of affordable housing for Canadians in need. MP Mike Bossio says the long-term goal is to reduce chronic homelessness by 50 per cent, and build more housing units nation-wide. At least 25 per cent of the funds will be put towards projects for women, girls, and their families.

Bossio says this is a monumental investment into reducing homelessness, which is a problem across the Hastings-Lennox and Addington riding.

Bossio says some of the funding will also be earmarked for repairs to existing federal housing units.

He says it’s hard to know how Bancroft will benefit until consultations are wrapped-up with provinces. Bossio says Hastings County will benefit from the strategy.
