Bancroft’s Santa Claus Parade coming up on Saturday

Santa Claus is coming to Bancroft on Saturday.

The Bancroft Lions’ Club will be hosting its annual Santa Claus Parade again this weekend. Parade Marshal Steve Scally says there will be a number of floats in the parade, but doesn’t know exactly what they’ll be because you can register up until tomorrow.

The Lions’ Club asks that anyone participating in the parade not include a Santa on their float. Scally says there will be prizes for those who enter a float.

There will also be a $50 honourable mention prize in each category. The local Sea Cadets will be collecting non-perishable food items along the parade route.

Preparations for the parade start at 12:30pm at the MTO Yard just west of downtown on Highway 28. The parade will start at 2:30pm.

Bancroft Public Works Manager Perry Kelly says there will be rolling road closures in front of and behind the parade as it passes through town. It will head east on Highway 28 from the MTO Yard, up Hastings Street North, before veering west onto Station Street. Staff will also be setting up road closures at the intersections of Mill and Bridge streets, and Hastings Street North and Station Street. The closures are expected to last for about an hour.

Scally says kids are also invited to meet Santa after the parade at Santa’s Village House on Station Street. It will also be open throughout the holiday season.
