Rising Food Costs Makes Healthy Eating More Difficult

Eating healthy has become more expensive in the last year. The Health Unit’s annual report, “The Real Cost of Eating Well in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties,” has just been released and is shows that a family of four in Hastings and Prince Edward counties would have to spend $191.33 per week on their groceries to eat well. The report called: “The Real Cost of Eating Well in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties,” is based on the recommendations of the Canada Food Guide and does not include convenience foods. This means that some low income family could spend as much as 92% of their take-home income on food and rent alone.
