If you get a call from the Canada Revenue Agency claiming you owe thousands in back taxes, it’s likely a scam.
That’s according to Central Hastings OPP, which says scammers have been doing just that, claiming that if you don’t pay up immediately, you’ll be arrested.
Police say these scammers create a sense of urgency, and insist that you don’t tell anyone. They’ll ask that you wire them money, or request for banking or personal information to take it from you.
Central Hastings OPP says those who have been the victims of a scam should call police. If you are not a victim but have received this type of call, you should report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
