316 Loyalist students receive tuition refunds

Over 300 Loyalist College students have withdrawn from their programs as a result of Ontario’s college strike. The strike lasted from October 16th to November 20th, when the province passed back-to-work legislation.

Loyalist President Ann Marie Vaughan says the students who have withdrawn have received tuition rebates. She says colleges are committed to supporting students who didn’t feel they could complete their studies due to the strike.

However, most students opted to finish their semesters. Vaughan says the college will make sure they get a complete education that provides them with the expertise to pursue careers.

Loyalist is also being required by the province to offer a Student Strike Relief Fund for full-time students who have been financially affected by the strike. These students can apply for up to $500 for unexpected costs caused by the strike, which will not impact their OSAP assessments.

Applications for the reimbursements need to be submitted by April 27th. Click here to find out more.
