Quinte Health Care has successfully referred more organ and tissue donors than the provincial standard.
This comes as QHC has received the Trillium Gift of Life Network’s ‘Provincial Conversion Rate Award’ for exceeding the 58 per cent organ and tissue donation target. In 2016/2017, all three potential donors referred by QHC went on to give the gift of life. Each can donate up to eight organs.
QHC President & CEO Mary Clare Egberts says it takes compassion, teamwork, and dedication to achieve a 100 per cent conversion rate. She calls this another example of how QHC staff and physicians live the company’s values.
Chair of the Organ and Tissue Donation Committee Dr. Maria Theodorou says staff and physicians from all QHC hospitals contribute to this achievement in a big way. She says they do an excellent job developing relationships with families and helping them through the highly-emotional donation process.
Twenty seven Ontario hospitals received the ‘Provincial Conversion Rate Award’ this year. QHC was one of only twelve with a 100 per cent conversion rate.
