A book on the “Wild Women, Painters of the Wilderness,” and a piece of a cabin wall are some of the highlights of this month’s show at the Art Gallery of Bancroft. The book showcases the wilderness painting os Algonquin Park by area painters” Joyce Burkeholder. Kathy Haycock and Linda Sorensen, and is available for sale as part of the Gallery’s Early Christmas at the Gallery show. The featured artist is Earl W. Smith, a local self-taught man, whose work was done largely in what is described as the “Naive” style. Along with a number of individual pieces, there is a section of wall cut from Smith’s old cabin and put on display. It has a very fine example of his unique style painted on it.
