Local museum receives Canada 150 grant

The Bancroft North Hastings Heritage Museum will be able to make some much-needed upgrades thanks to a federal grant.

Councillor Mary Kavanagh says the museum board is thrilled that it will receive an $85,000 Canada 150 grant. Kavanagh says some of the funding will be put towards making the building more accessible.

Kavanagh says some of the money will also be used for upgrades to heating and insulating the building.

The grant will also help rewire the museum’s second floor.  Kavanagh says the hope is these upgrades will help the museum stay open year-round, if the board can secure volunteers and staff. It will also help the museum continue to serve the community for many years to come.

However, Kavanagh says the museum will be closed for the next few months as renovations are underway, and in order to put all the exhibits back into place. Memberships for the museum’s Genealogy Centre will be extended.
