OVTA: Madawaska Highlands part of key snowmobiling region in Ontario

The Ottawa Valley Tourism Association is not surprised by local snowmobile trails earning high ranks.

That’s according to Marketing Coordinator Melissa Marquardt. This stems from a recent article in the Intrepid Snowmobiler which ranked trails in the Ottawa Valley as the second best in Ontario. Those in the Madawaska Highlands, which includes Bancroft, Whitney, and Madawaska Valley, came third.

Marquardt says that’s because this is a key sledding region that always gets snow and is close to some big cities.

Marquardt also says local tourism operators and snowmobile clubs part the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs’ District Six contributed to the high ranking.

Snowmobiling generates $1.7-billion for the province every year. Marquardt says about $77-million of that comes from the OFSC’s District Six, which includes parts of Renfrew, Hastings, and Haliburton counties.
