Snowplowing by Carillion to continue in Bancroft area

Winter highway maintenance in Bancroft won’t be interrupted for now.

This news comes after Carillion Canada’s UK-based parent company announced yesterday it is going into liquidation protection. Carillion holds the winter maintenance contract for provincial highways in the Bancroft area, which extends into parts of Hastings, Haliburton, Renfrew, Peterborough, and Lennox and Addington counties.

Ministry of Transportation Senior Media Liaison Bob Nichols says the MTO met with Carillion Canada on Monday. Although service is not expected to be affected at this time, the MTO will continue looking at all of its options should the situation change. More meetings are scheduled with Carillion this week, and updates will be provided when they become available.

Bancroft Public Works Manager Perry Kelly says it will be business as usual unless Carillion says it can no longer provide service for provincial highways in town. If that happens, Kelly says Bancroft will be able to provide these services within the town’s limits to make sure the roads are safe to drive on.
