Computer Licence Plate Scanner Helps Police Nab Thief

An OPP cruiser equipped with the Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) system helped police catch a thief. Cameras connected to the ALPR scan licence plates and can check for stolen or expired plates, as well as discover if the owner’s licence has been suspended. On Tuesday afternoon, the system alerted officers to a car that had stolen plates attached. Police stopped the suspect car on Highway 62, in Tudor and Cashel Township, and arrested the driver. The suspect, a 37 year-old Madoc man, is facing a charge of possession of stolen property.
