Fifteen minutes of literacy can help your child’s success

Spending 15 minutes every day to work on your child’s literacy skills can pay off in the long run.

That’s according to the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health, as it’s set to recognize Family Literacy Day this Saturday. The health unit says the day is meant to promote the importance of talking, listening, playing, and reading with your kids.

Public Health Nurse Shelley Shaughnessy says those few minutes can help ensure that your child has all the skills they need to be successful.

Shaughnessy says there are a lot of fun ways to improve your child’s literacy skills so they won’t even know they’re learning.

The health unit says you can also make reading and writing part of your everyday life, by getting your child to read traffic signs or by writing down your family’s grocery list. You can find more tips by clicking here.
