Rising temperature prompts ice safety reminder

Police are reminding you to always check ice conditions before heading out onto frozen waterways.

This comes as temperatures in North Hastings are expected to rise above the freezing mark over the weekend. Because of this, the OPP says it’s important to check and monitor the weather before heading out onto any ice.

Police also recommend that you let someone know where you’re going, and never head out alone or after dark. You should also be prepared with a small survival kit which includes an ice pick, rope, a lighter, matches, a pocket knife, a compass and a whistle.

The OPP says we can’t control the weather, but we can control our actions.
