Bancroft is pitching the idea of developing a regional community safety and well-being strategy.
The idea was presented to other communities in North Hastings during today’s Bancroft Community Safety and Well-Being Committee meeting. This comes as all municipalities in Ontario will be required to have these types of strategies in place within the next two years. Committee member Dr. Hugh Russell says the goal of the strategy is to take steps to prevent crime from happening in the first place.
Committee Chair and Deputy Mayor Charles Mullett says other communities were invited to find out what they would need to include in this type of strategy.
This could also require community safety and well-being committees to be formed in each municipality, or at a regional level. Mullett says other communities in North Hastings could benefit from creating a regional committee.
Mullett is encouraging any community interested in a regional community safety and well-being strategy to contact the town.
